Botanical Name: Shorea species..
Appearance: Heartwood is pale to mid red-brown. Sapwood yellow, pink or grey and usually distinguishable. Texture coarse but even. Grain interlocked, usually giving a ribbon or strip figure to the radial surface.
Common Uses: Generally only suitable for interior applications such as dressed mouldings or furniture construction.
Finishing: Generally clear-finished to highlight the natural colour and grain pattern. Meranti is not suitable for exterior use without a durable protective coating.
